My second day at work went well. Gabby and I polished off the remaining reports in quick fashion. From late morning until early afternoon, I hustled from meeting to meeting, wedging in a fifteen-minute lunch—a surprisingly tasty turkey sandwich from the cafeteria that my assistant fetched for me while I constructed a few emails. By 3 p.m., I had the required reports in the hands of Walter Bainbridge who seemed very pleased with my work. He thumbed through the documents, nodding all the while.

“Good work, Taylor. This is one less thing I need to worry about before I leave for my trip.”

“Oh? You are going out of town?” I asked.

“Sorry, yes. I thought I mentioned it. I suppose I didn’t. I leave for Miami Beach this evening. I’m heading to the airport soon, returning Sunday evening. I’ll be available by both phone and email though, but I figure you can do without me for a few days.” He handed me a folder. “Your assignments are spelled out here, Taylor. I have complete confidence in you!”

“Thank you, sir,” I said. “I’m sure I’ll be fine. I hope you have a great trip.”

I left his office and was back at the Bainbridge estate by 4:45. I crossed paths with no one, going straight to my quarters to shower and dress for my evening with the ladies. A package lay on my bed—a big box with a pink bow. I detoured over and checked the accompanying card.

Taylor, I took the liberty of purchasing an outfit for you to wear tonight! I look forward to seeing you in it! Supper at six!

I opened the package to find a red Neiman Marcus sundress that must have cost a small fortune along with black Jimmy Choo stilettos that surely cost even more. A frilly thong rounded out the ensemble. I examined the tags, noting that Marigold Bainbridge had sized me up perfectly. After laying the items out on the bed, I jumped in the shower, tending meticulously to my hygiene before toweling off and blow drying my hair. After brushing my teeth and rinsing with mouthwash, I applied makeup, dressed, added a gold pendant and earrings, and admired my new attire in the suite’s full-length mirror.

Marigold had picked the perfect color for me. The rich red worked well with my skin tone, and the shoes gave me a sophisticated yet trampy look, which added a little buzz to the outfit.

I took the stairs and moved to the dining room. Two ladies I didn’t recognize turned when I entered, smiled and assessed me with their eyes. I smiled and stepped forward to greet them just as Marigold dashed through the entrance. She did that little thing with her hands and made introductions.

“Taylor Rocereta, please say hello to Anna Beth Coleman and Muffin Stewart.”

I almost laughed. These southern monikers! Anna Beth! A girl with two names. But her dual identity was the only thing she shared with Bob Earl. Anna Beth was gorgeous. Brown hair, thick and ropy, flowed nearly to her waist.
